Lovecraft was a spin-off group from the original H.P. Lovecraft, who released two albums for Philips Records, of the original line-up, only drummer Michael Tegza remained, though George Edwards was with the group briefly, the remaining members were former Aorta guitarist Jim Donlinger, ex-Buckinghams' multi-instrumentalist Marty Grebb, and future leader of the Call, Michael Been. The LP bears little resemblance to the the original H.P.Lovecraft, but that doesn't mean this album isn't entertaining, with a tighter sound that blends hard driving drums and guitars with more delicate, harmony vocal accented songcraft! It's a far cry from the psychedelic experimentation of HP Lovecraft - but it's actually a pretty impressive rock record in its own right - prefiguring the later 70s rock sounds long before the better known giants of the decade!

French trio, that know no limitations and prohibitions. Impressive and delirious, the trio combines raw madness and virtuosity, they dance and dash between the energy of punk, the beauty of chamber music and the chaos of a factory on the brink of explosion. Sus, the new album of the ultra-speed superhero trio is steeped in maturity. The record consists of two epic 20 minute pieces where humour gives up its place to lyricism and Occitan poetry. Serenades of love, sky and sea intercourse, mad dogs shrieking from the bottom of a well…. PoiL have removed their red costumes and donned troubadour’s cap, ostensibly calmer but forever close to madness.

With their trance-evoking mix of psychedelic blues-rock and folk music, Träd, Gräs och Stenar (Trees, Grass and Stones) played a central role in the development of progressive rock in Scandinavia in the early '70s. They were also one of the biggest, and best-sounding, examples of the idea that the audience should participate in the music. Predating the anarchism and do-it-yourself mentalities of later punk and indie rock movements, the group manufactured their own instruments and audio equipment, pressed their own records, and played spontaneous concerts…

This album is a conglomeration of my post-college experience, with songs about different themes when it comes to figuring out what to do with yourself. The themes include writer’s block, falling out of touch with friends, and not knowing what the hell you’re doing. It is called The Castle because a large portion of it was recorded in an old church that I lived in for a while (pictured in the album cover) that my roommates and I lovingly referred to as “The Castle”. The album features saxophone tracks by James Negron as well as guitar solos by Josh Thorsey. Brandon Rutski and Paul Bonolo play some tasteful drum tracks as well.

Memphis post-punk outfit, NOTS, continue embrace a DIY mentality with their Cosmetic follow-up, 3. While the trio steers us through a dizzying scurry of rock anthems, the group continues to expand their range. By harnessing their roots that made their debut LP, We Are NOTS, so celebrated, 3 finds the group adhering to a similar framework with its ten tracks. Nots underpin their hook-driven racket with themes of decaying existence and what it means to reemerge on the other side, liberated and ready for a fight.

Minneapolis-based Carroll, one of the most colourful, carefully honed acts in indie rock, are many Things: young vibrant, contemplative. But perhaps most interestingly, they're a case study in how four distinct creative voices can coalesce into one balanced, relentlessly engaging sound. Formed in 2011, the band self-released their first EP, Needs. That was followed in quick succession by a host of accolades. The biggest radio stations and music publications in the Twin Cities lavished the band with praise; The Current, the market's triple-A NPR affiliate, has kept them in constant rotation.

Who's Next is the fifth studio album by English rock band The Who, released on 14 August 1971. Its origins lie in an abortive multi-media rock opera written by chief songwriter Pete Townshend called Lifehouse. The album was commercially and critically successful, and became the only one by the group to top the UK charts. The album was an immediate success when it was released, and has been certified 3× platinum by the RIAA. It continues to be critically acclaimed, including being cited by Time magazine as one of the best 100 albums of all time, and has been reissued on CD several times with additional material intended for Lifehouse. The cover artwork, featuring the group members having urinated against a monolith found on a slag heap, has also achieved critical recognition and was listed as one of VH1's greatest album covers of all time.

Don't be fooled by the Bee Gees-esque cover photo, Love Beach is not really ELP gone pop. True, many of the songs are more concise and accessible than those on previous albums, and there are a couple of Greg Lake-dominated "romantic" tunes, but those had always been part of the deal. They're still classically rockin' along on "Canario," and half the album is dominated by the 20-minute epic "Memoirs of an Officer and a Gentleman," reminiscent of such long-form ELP classics as "Trilogy."

David Gilmour sang about an endless river on "High Hopes," the last song on what appeared to be the last Pink Floyd album, 1994's Division Bell. Twenty years later, the same phrase became the title of The Endless River, an album designed as Pink Floyd's last. Assembled largely from Division Bell outtakes initially intended as an ambient project dubbed The Big Spliff, the record was sculpted into shape in 2014 by Gilmour, Youth, Andy Jackson, and Roxy Music's Phil Manzanera by adding guitar and Nick Mason's drums to original tapes that were laden with keyboards from the late Rick Wright. He's not the only missing member of Floyd, of course. Roger Waters is absent, as is the long-gone Syd Barrett, but their ghosts are present throughout the primarily instrumental The Endless River.

On No Keys, Dommengang channel the wailing, psych-rock abandon of their previous work into a lean, dark-edged record colored by loss, change, and the sheer force of growing musicianship. Guitarist Dan “Sig” Wilson, bassist Brian Markham, and drummer Adam Bulgasem have grown closer even as they live and travel ever-further apart, and No Keys captures the raw energy of their moments together, with wailing, improvised blues-rock as unrelenting as it can be tender.

It is no coincidence that Eric Gales is listed as providing "guitar and vocals" rather than "vocals and guitar" in the credits of The Story of My Life. While Gales is a competent singer, he is an excellent guitarist; what one hears on The Story of My Life and previous Gales releases is really singing in service of guitar playing rather than guitar playing in service of singing. Of course, competent doesn't mean weak or bad – and while Gales' vocal chops aren't in a class with his guitar chops, he has no problem getting his emotional points across on this 2008 release. The Story of My Life finds Gales forming a power trio with bassist Steve Evans and drummer Jeremy Colson; comparisons to the Jimi Hendrix Experience (one of the 1960s' most influential power trios) are inevitable, and there is no getting around the fact that Hendrix is a huge influence throughout this blues-rock/hard rock/psychedelic rock CD.
