The intense tenor saxophonist George Adams teams up with trumpeter Marvin "Hannibal" Peterson, guitarist John Schofield and an alert rhythm section (pianist Ron Burton, bassist Walter Schmocker and drummer Allen Nelson) during this 1984 concert to explore five originals by the three principals, plus the standard "Don't Take Your Love From Me." The music has its strong moments, although nothing all that memorable occurs, except perhaps for Adams' eccentric vocal on "I Could Really Go for You."

A small pocket dragon, the dragonfly is capable of hovering as much as dizzying changes of direction of speed. On its back, nestled between its shimmering wings, we will go through ponds and steppes … under the sun or in the mist, in the middle of the hill or in height, what will the landscape, each time different, look like from our strange mount?

This anthology collects, among others, the pieces with which Vincenzo Sorrentino began his successful and prolific production of compositions for flute orchestra, commissioned by Joueurs de Flute, an ensemble led by Mariangela Biscia. Sorrentino met this group of young and gifted flutists in 2005; until 2008, it remained the only recipient, and, with Inno for Joueurs (2011), also the dedicatee, of the pieces in this CD, under the artistic supervision of Biscia herself. A warm and pleasant relationship blossomed on the occasion of the premiere of Flu-ten (2004) at the VIII Festival Italiano del Flauto (Italian Festival of the Flute), at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome at the end of 2005.

RITOGRAFIA (1971) proposes a series of musical sketches alien from any predetermination. The episode-theme is based on a moto perpetuo in the higher-middle register of the piano, which progressively evolves towards synchronies initially consisting of two simultaneous sounds that ultimately become three, four, five or more agglomerations of sounds. The complex harmonic structures of these clusters create an ecstatic atmosphere. The form is indeterminate, and each graphic “sign” does not correspond to a specific sound but wants to evoke unexplored acoustic worlds. The title, Ritografia, precisely attests its procedure as illustrated.

Presented with a University of Oregon Faculty Excellence Award in 2016, saxophonist Idit Shner chose to invest that award in the creation of new compositions for saxophone. Participating in both individual and group commissioning efforts, this recording was programmed from that collection of ten new works by long established composers, such as Chicago's Stacy Garrop, to several more diverse and emerging voices, including Ziv Slama from Israel and the Oregon-based Andrea Reinkemeyer and Evan C. Paul. With pianist EunHye Choi, Shner performed several concerts with each of these pieces to enthusiastic response, forming the belief that while obvious audience favorites, they also represent a substantial contribution to current saxophone literature.

Tango is a musical genre. This statement seems almost revolutionary in an era in which that word evokes passionate movements, Argentine and Uruguayans suburban landscapes, but tends to neglect what this dance finds life from: the music. And therefore almost a blasphemous act will appear the proposal of a concert tango record, written by contemporary composers. Going deeper, will kick up a fuss the fact that the musicians in the record are Sicilians, one of whom has built the most of his career in Great Britain. Let’s say that even the composers are all Italians, and the Sunday tanguero will be taken down by tears of madness. But let’s go step by step.
