The Penguin Cafe Orchestra (PCO) was an avant-pop band led by English guitarist Simon Jeffes. Co-founded with cellist Helen Liebmann, the band toured extensively during the 1980s and 1990s. The orchestra's sound is not easily categorized, but has elements of exuberant folk music and a minimalist aesthetic occasionally reminiscent of composers such as Philip Glass. The group recorded and performed for 24 years until Jeffes died of an inoperable brain tumour in 1997.

It features only three pieces, which belong to the hard bop subgenre and distinguish themselves by being fast-paced and bluesy. The Allmusic review by Ken Dryden awarded the album 4 stars and states: "It is peculiar that Verve shelved the results for over a decade before issuing any of the music, though it may have been felt that Getz and Evans hadn't had enough time to achieve the desired chemistry, though there are memorable moments".

As the title indicates, the recording took place at the New York City music venue Fillmore East, which was run by concert promoter Bill Graham. This album was one of 50 recordings chosen in 2004 by the Library of Congress to be added to the National Recording Registry. Rolling Stone included at number 49 in their 2003 list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, describing it as "Rock's greatest live double LP". The album was also included in the books "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die" and "1000 Recordings To Hear Before You Die".

Unlike some other MOR pop stars, Barry Manilow never enjoyed the sort of swinging-hipster revival that made him a hot name to drop, ironically or otherwise. Incredibly enough, until the release of Ultimate Manilow in 2002, there was no comprehensive single-disc hits package on the market – a shockingly long wait for one of the most popular hitmakers of the '70s, hip or not, and clearly the demand was there; Ultimate Manilow entered the charts at number three.

The Green Album is the debut album by English rock musician Eddie Jobson, released by Capitol Records in 1983. It is officially credited to Eddie Jobson and Zinc, Zinc being identified in press releases as a backing band consisting of Michael Cuneo (guitars), Jerry Watts (bass), and Michael Barsimanto (drums); however, none of the members of Zinc played on more than half the songs on the album, and only four tracks feature the entire group. Because of this, The Green Album is widely regarded as an Eddie Jobson solo album, similarly to how Runt is considered a Todd Rundgren solo album despite being credited to Runt. Jobson, a former member of Roxy Music, had also previously played with Curved Air, Frank Zappa, UK, and Jethro Tull.
